How to update apps on your beamer?

Each year the smart mini beamers are getting more advanced. Almost all modern projectors have an Android TV or Google TV operating system. This allows you to install all your favourite apps, lets you stream movies, watch live TV and even use your beamer without connecting it to an external device. But just like your smartphone, it's important to keep the software and apps up-to-date.

Updates can improve the performance of the beamer, solve any bugs, fix problems with apps and even keep your beamer working smoothly. In this article we'll take you through everything you need to know about how to update your beamer software in general and how to update all your favourite apps on your Android TV or Google TV beamer.

How to update your beamer software

Before you want to update any of your apps, you need to make sure whether your beamer has the latest software version. If you update your beamer software, you can improve the operating system, fix small errors, solve Wi-Fi issues, apps, sound or just the performance of the beamer in general.

Our beamer all support over-the-air updates (OTA updates). This means that updates can be directly sent to your beamer without connecting to the internet and downloading it from there. We can even update your beamer while we're in contact with you regarding a problem, for example. With an OTA update, you can improve your software without needing extra cables or long and difficult installation steps.

It can be different per beamer model, where you can find software updates. It's always a good idea to first check the user manual, where this step will be fully explained. For many of the Android TV and Google TV beamers, you can usually find the system updates at:

Settings → More Settings → System Update

Now, you first need to make sure your beamer is connected to Wi-Fi before checking for any updates. Also, avoid turning off the beamer during an update; this could interrupt the update process and potentially even damage the update.

If your beamer does not work correctly after a software update, the first thing you need to do is check whether the time and date are correct on the beamer. The operating system gets 'confused' when this is incorrect. It might experience problems with the Wi-Fi, apps or the login system.

You can easily check this at the following:

Settings → Time and Date

Always make sure the time zone, date and the time are correct. In many cases, if this setting is incorrect, it's the issue for problems. If you simply adjust this, then it can instantly solve the issue. If the problem is still present after adjusting this setting, please contact the brand or seller from your beamer. Most software issues can be fixed with the right steps or an additional update.

How to update apps on your beamer

If you're using an Android TV or Google TV beamer, your apps also need updates from time to time. These updates help keep the apps compatible with the operating system and fix potential bugs and even loading problems. Your app might be slow, and an update will fix this. This doesn't happen very often, but it's important to know what you need to do if an app suddenly stops working or becomes slow.

You can easily navigate through the Google Play Store for the updates for your beamer. Simply open the Play Store, go to your installed apps and check if your desired app has an update. Some apps even update automatically when your beamer has an internet connection; however, not always.

For Android TV beamers, we've created a specific page that explains how you can update the most popular streaming apps; it even helps you know what to do when something goes wrong before, during or after the update: Beamer app updates. This page takes you through each step for updating apps, and if it doesn't work, you can always contact us for help.

If you've just updated your app or beamer and it has stopped working, then first check the time and date settings again. Sometimes after an update, it can jump back to incorrect settings. If the setting is correct, check whether there is another update available for either the app or the software of the beamer.

Does this still not solve the issue? Then you need to contact your beamer brand or seller. App problems are usually fixable, especially when your beamer supports OTA updates and has access to the correct app versions.

Keeping your beamer and your apps on it updated will help you enjoy a smoother experience while streaming. It reduces the chance of technical problems.
